We live in a highly-visual world requiring a constant stream of project photographs – for proposals, websites, presentations, and social media. Whether or not we plan to hire a professional photographer, the reality is that when we need an image, we often need it now. So marketing and business development professionals have become “staff photographers.” Sometimes the images will only be used a few times until a professional is able to “shoot” the project. Other times, the photos we take will serve as the completed project record, and the only images available for marketing use. But how many of us studied photography? This informative classroom-based session will cover some of the basic, but highly effective, techniques used by the pros – and most apply to you whether you are using an advanced DSLR or a more basic compact camera. Common challenging situations will be addressed, as well as the solutions to overcoming them. And because post-processing can often be as important as pushing the shutter, a number of critical “digital darkroom” practices will also be shared.

- Attendees will utilize basic elements of camera creative control necessary for photographing architectural, engineering, and construction projects.
- Attendees will recognize composition techniques favored by architectural photographers and incorporate them into their photography.
- Attendees will overcome challenging situations like bad weather or mixed lighting interiors to take quality photographs.
- Attendees will utilize simple post-processing techniques to greatly enhance the quality of project images.
Presented by: Scott D. Butcher, FSMPS, CPSM. Scott has a passion for architectural and landscape photography, something he developed while still in college and later when he graduated from the New York Institute of Photography program. He regularly shoots architecture and interiors for projects, and has had more than 1500 photographs published in visitors guides, relocation guides, websites, and books that he has written – including two specifically about architecture. Scott previously participated in arts festivals, and has had several shows at local restaurants and businesses over the years. In 2001, he wrote one of the first-ever photography ebooks, and recently completed an all-new ebook, Simplified Project Photography, which will be released in 2016. He has previously presented about project photography to AIA Central PA, SMPS Central PA, and SMPS Philadelphia and has also led photowalks through his hometown.
